The Son of Cups is more mature than the Daughter of Cups with a depth of darkness and light that add to his character. The Daughter of Cups was in peaceful, illuminated water, while the Son of Cups has a movement drawing in an upward direction. This is showing a new chapter in life in a different direction that is stemming from what has been learned through his current experience. It is a new direction that comes from what he has bared witness to and experienced of light and dark. This new movement comes from wisdom that has unraveled over the course of his experience. The Son of Cups does not have the maturity as the Father, but has much more experience than the Daughter does in her sweet innocence. Different phases of life stretch our capacity in numerous ways and now is that of a growing phase for the Son. There is tremendous growth and depth, but not at the peak of maturity. The Son of Cups is at an exciting time shedding immense amounts of what no longer serves and highly sensitive to what does. So much so, that circumstances are rapidly changing to match the depth of what he is internally discovering.
Cups are linked with love and relationships, connections, and emotional well being. The cup in front of the swan is a combination of dark and light emotions at play. There is tremendous amount of heavy and light emotional energy bursting in this cup, but the Son at this time has the maturity to keep moving forward with grace. The Son of Cups is using this bubbling energy for creative thinking and momentum forward. Although there is some darkness in the cup this should not scare the one who pulls the card. We all have a depth of dark and light within and they can be harnessed and used in many creative and positive ways. How we perceive the darkness and light will determine if they will be used constructively or not. There is a good and healthy balance here that joins heart and mind energy. The Son of Cups is finding a better balance of intuition and logic combination. However, if he was pulled upside down it can mean the emotions are not being cared for properly and there can be movements that are hasty and overly emotional.
The Son of Cups emotions are very much concentrated within him. They are not expanding over the entire card. This energy is very much in the center of focus right now as he is moving from the inside out. He is introspective and allowing himself to feel the depth of the wide spectrum of his emotions. He is looking at triggers and paying attention to what feels healthy for him and what feels toxic. He is discovering illusions that have been deeply rooted and watching them fall away. There are many changes happening on very subtle levels. Ones he cannot entirely describe, but feeling completely and allowing grace to care for the changes. The invitation is to allow the exploration of the inner workings, but to not become self absorbed and narrow. Allow yourself to explore naturally, but do not obsess. This card can be equally as positive as it is negative. A good way to observe and see is how the inner/outer life is balancing. Is one paying attention to only inner and not practical life? This is something to be watchful of with this card. An invitation to learn from those who are the completely different from you is helpful, as they can have strengths you do not have. The invitation is to not neglect any aspect of self. As we connect more deeply with our naturalness all of these things begin to make sense and fall into their own balance, and that looks entirely different for everyone.
This is a time to investigate your how you genuinely feel. How are you taking care of yourself? Sometimes we take immense care in one way and completely fall off the wagon in another. The Son of Cups calls for balance in all aspects of life. Inviting sensitivity and compassion toward yourself and others now will make a world of difference. Whatever is being discovered, as dark or light as it may be can be seen in positive regard when we become honest and transparent with ourselves and take right action. With right action we will be guided in a direction that is in alignment with the highest good for ourselves and all of life. With right action use intuition, but don’t ignore logic and reason when they are useful. The capacity for all is there, use the balance of both as you move forward into unknown spaces.
